[Westminster, London] On Sunday, 25 May 2025, London’s Chinatown was filled with joy and festive spirit as the Dragon Boat Festival Community Giveaway, organised by the East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) Support Network, was successfully held outside Tao Tao Ju. The event attracted numerous residents, families, and tourists, celebrating tradition while strengthening community bonds.
The Dragon Boat Festival symbolises loyalty, health, and unity. This event not only celebrated cultural heritage but also promoted community care through meaningful actions, with more than 300 festive zongzi (rice dumplings) and gift packs distributed on-site, and members of the public invited to share their thoughts on the future of local development.
“The power of cultural heritage lies in its ability to bring people together,” said Mr. Desmond Tang, founder of the Lai Mei Tang Group. As the event’s sponsor, he added: “We’re honoured to support such a meaningful initiative — one that celebrates tradition while spreading care and compassion. These are the core values our group stands for.”
Attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with the ESEA Support Network team, share ideas and needs, and explore how to better serve the ESEA community in the UK.
Madam Fong, a local Malaysian Chinese resident, looked forward to celebrating the festival with her grandchildren and shared: “It’s truly touching to see such a traditional event here in London. It makes me proud of my culture and gives me hope for greater community support.”
The organisers extend heartfelt thanks to all volunteers, partners, and attendees for their enthusiastic participation — and to Lai Mei Tang Group and Horizon Casino for their generous sponsorship — in making this cultural and community celebration a meaningful success.
