Lunar New Year 2025

ESEA Support Network Celebrates Year of the Snake with First Event in London Chinatown
London, 29 January 2025 – The ESEA Support Network marked the Year of the Snake with its inaugural mini event in the heart of London Chinatown, bringing the community together for a day of celebration, cultural appreciation, and solidarity. The event featured a welcome giveaway of traditional Chinese rice cakes and goodie bags generously sponsored by Lai Mei Tang Group and Horizon Casino.

The gathering was honoured by the presence of Countess Alexandra of Frederiksborg, who expressed her support for the East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) community. “It is wonderful to see such a vibrant and united community celebrating its rich heritage,” she said. “Events like this foster inclusivity and cultural appreciation, strengthening the fabric of our society.”

The event was also attended by past and present community activists, highlighting the ongoing efforts to support and empower ESEA communities in the UK. Mr Desmond Tang, a well-known restaurateur and founder of the Lai Mei Tang Group, emphasised the importance of such initiatives. “London Chinatown has long been a cornerstone for the ESEA community, and it is heartening to see people come together to celebrate and support one another. This is just the beginning of what we hope will be many more initiatives to uplift and advocate for our community,” he said.
The successful event underscored the ESEA Support Network’s commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and solidarity among East and Southeast Asian communities in the UK. As the organisation continues to grow, it looks forward to hosting more events that celebrate culture, promote advocacy, and build stronger community ties.
